Something a little different this week, a one round shoot for a chance to play on the Challenge Tour in the Northern Ireland Open
Some big names were in the field and it was a tough ask as only two players would qualify out of a field of 60
A little change in the weather for this event though, no wind, BUT absolutely pouring down with rain – so on with the waterproofs and off we went
I started off really well considering the conditions and a big thank you to the greenkeepers and members at Redditch who were out all day on the greens squeezing the water off them.
After 9 holes I was one over par and really happy with my game, and after I birdied the 10th to go back to level I was right in the hunt for a top finish.
The weather just got worse and it was a real struggle to keep going, I made bogeys at the 11th,12th,14th and 16th to drop back a bit.
I kept plugging away though and on 18 made a great birdie to finish with a 75 (+3) for the day.
The winner shot 70 and there was a two man play off for the other slot after two 71`s came in – they were the only three guys to break par
When the results came out I had finished in a tie for 16th – really happy that my golf is moving in the right direction, one shot shot lower and I would also got a pay day.
I’m getting there though, in two out of my first four comps I have just missed getting paid by only one shot
